Two Big Fat Offenders
I have to admit that when my team got on the Paleo/Whole 30/Whole Food bandwagon I was not a fan. I didn’t quite understand it all and had some pre-conceived ideas about what this “style” of eating was all about. in fact most of my experience comes from my own weight loss, which I successfully accomplished without eating this way.
However, as I looked more and more into it and learned a bit more about it I am confident that this is a great way to life, eat and flourish.
That’s right, I said flourish.
Because losing weight isn’t everything, it is only part of the BIG THING! The BIG THING is being happy and healthy.
I read a quote the other day, actually more of a tag line that said “Healthy by choice, Hot by accident” and I instantly became a fan.
If you are always chasing weight loss or fat loss then you are missing out on the big picture. If you start striving for optimal health then the weight loss and fat loss can come much easier.
This has never been more evident than in my own personal journey and that of a few clients that have embraced this lifestyle. In fact, a recent long time client lost 7 lbs in 7 days be eliminating one of the TWO BIG FAT OFFENDERS that we are going to talk about today.
If I had to start with someone on a weight loss plan the first two things that I would have them remove from their diet are grains and dairy.
That’s right! Grains aren’t good for you. Even if you can handle them well, or you think you can, there is really no reason to have them in your diet. Especially wheat or gluten containing grains. Eventually you may be able to include white rice or quinoa in your diet without the negative side effects, but wheat and gluten do a number on most people’s digestive system and cause an incredible amount of inflammation. When you are inflamed you can’t lose weight because your body is under an incredible amount of stress.
The worst thing is that you may not even know it!
You can still get your starches in for workout recovery in the form of sweet potatoes, squash (butternut and other varieties) as well as a few other forms of starchy tubers. This is a much healthier way to help your body recover and keep your digestive system happy.
The inflammation caused by grains may make you hold water, feel bloated, give you an upset stomach or even cause something called leaky gut. If you have leaky gut foods and bacteria are literally able to pass through the walls of your intestines and enter your body. That is not a good thing!
We can go into more detail on this in the future but for now our Force Team recommends that you stay away from grains.
Dairy is also a big offender!
This was a tough one for me personally. I love my whey protein! I can do without a lot of the other stuff but I was reliant on whey to get my protein in throughout the day. However, after just a few weeks of eliminating dairy, including my beloved whey, I feel a lot better. I will eventually reintroduce whey back into my diet to see how I react but I am eliminating it for 21 days to let my system recover a bit.
So, if I wanted the fastest results possible for fat loss and also wanted to get you healthy I would have you remove these two items from your diet for 21 days and then gradually reintroduce them one at a time for 3 days at a time so you could judge your body’s reaction and response to having them in your system. I promise that after 21 days it will be noticeable if you have a reaction. It may not be immediate, it could be acne a few days after eating some yogurt or it could be immediate stomach pains after having some bread.
Think about trying to eliminate these two items for immediate improvements in your health and for faster fat loss.
